The author arrived in India in late 1846 to join the [[3rd Light Dragoons]], where he took part in the [[2nd Sikh War]] and remained with the regiment until they returned to England. C 1854, he could not afford to remain in England and exchanged into the 9th Lancers, arriving back at Umballa in 1855 (page 99) and took part in the [[Indian Mutiny]], [https://archive.org/stream/cavalryexperien00ouvrgoog#page/n157/mode/2up page 127] He returned to England in 1859. His wife's account follows.

This however appears to be extracts, not the whole book, as the first page of text is page 71. There is also a history from 1936. Some of the pages were slow to display, which commences from page 59or did not display in a reasonable time.
