The Dhond-Baramati Railway 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) privately owned railway was under construction in 1913 by Dhond ‘Dhond and Baramati Railway CompanyCompany’.
The line opened in May 1914 linking Dhond to Baramati, a line length of 27 miles(43km), and it added to the prosperity of the sugarcane industry in the region. The line was worked (together with other NG lines owned by Central Provinces Railway Co Ltd), by the Great Indian Peninsula Railway(GIPR) as part of the GIPR - NG network and connected at Dhond to the GIPR mainline
