In a similar manner, on 1 October 1944, the GoI took over the [[Sara-Sirajgonj Railway]] and merged it into the BAR.
In 1947, the BAR was split up and those parts ramaining within the area of East Pakistan were renamed '''Eastern Bengal Railway''' with ownership and control vesting in the Central Government of Pakistan. In 1961, the system was further renamed '''Pakistan Eastern Railway'''.
