The '''Suramangalam-Salem Railway''' was sanctioned for construction by the [[South Indian Railway]] Company (SIR) on behalf of the District Board of Salem in March 1915. The short broad gauge([[Rail_gauge#Broad_Gauge|BG]]) line linking [[Suramangalam]] to [[Salem]] was 4 3.9 miles(7 6.3 Km) in length.
