The section from Trichinopoly Junction to Madura , 96 miles(154km) originally was a section of the ‘MG Branch Line’, the section from [[Madura]] to [[Tuticorin]], 99 miles(158km) opened in 1876 and was named ‘[[Tuticorin Branch Line]]’. The full line was part of the ‘[[South Indian Railway]] ‘SIR Metre Gauge’
