Great in valour and vitality his personal influence and political insight won him a name that ranks high among frontiersmen of renown. In friendship generous, in power just, in responsibility unflinching, as an officer and administrator he was to all races on this border a trusty and well beloved gentleman. This stone is erected by officers and men of the 27th Punjabis and of the northern and southern Waziristan militias.
"Died of wounds inflicted by his native orderly, April 14 1914. Gentleman Cadet R.M.C. 1891-92."
