The Dacca State Railway (DSR) was a metre gauge(MG) line of 90 miles(144km) mainly for carriage of raw jute up to the inland port of Narayanganj and then onwards by river to Calcutta.

The first section from Narayanganj to Dacca opened in January 1885 and reached Mymensingh in August 1885. The railway was first named the Narayanganj-Dacca-Mymensingh State Railway renamed Dacca State Railway in late 1885; [1]

At Mymensingh, there was an end-on connection to the privately owned Mymensingh-Jamalpur-Jagannath Railway, worked by the Eastern Bengal RailwayEBR.

In 1887, to ensure better management, the DSR, along with Northern Bengal State Railway(NBSR) and the narrow gauge(NG) Kaunia-Dharlia State Tram/Railway were amalgamated to form the Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR).
