Hardwar, (later named Haridwar), is one of the seven holiest places to Hindus and a "Hindu place of pilgrimage, in the Saharanpur district of the United Provinces, on the right bank of the Ganges, 17 m. N.E. of Rurki." It was also the end-on junction between the Oudh and Rohilkhand Railway and Hardwar-Dehra Railway.
