Lowry Guthrie 23 February 1846. She travelled from England,with a female companion, possibly her daughter and was met by G, and proceeded to Belgaum. G is probably a relative, possibly son-in-law, who appears to have been  in government employment, but it is unclear whether he was in the Army or Civil Service.

Belgaum



Belgaum came under the control of the British in 1818 at the end of the 3rd Maratha War when the Maratha empire was broken up. It was the headquarters of Belgaum District in the Southern division of Bombay Presidency during the British period.

A cantonment was located there.
