Bengal State Railways was used in some documents as a collective name for the 'Northern Bengal State Railway'(NBSR) and 'Eastern Bengal Railway'(EBR).
The NBSR operated from 1874 until 1887 when it merged into the EBR and became known as the 'Eastern Bengal State Railway' but still retained the system abbreviation EBR.
