The Narayanganj-Dacca-Mymensingh State Railway was a metre gauge(MG) line of 90 miles(144km) mainly for carriage of raw jute up to the inland port of Narayanganj and then onwards by river to Calcutta.
Also known as the Dacca-Mymensingh Branch Railway when under construction in December 1881 until early 1884 when Horace Bell was Engineer-in-Chief of the works.
The first section from Narayanganj to Dacca opened in January 1885 and reached Mymensingh in August 1885. The railway was renamed Dacca State Railway in late 1885; which in 1887 merged into Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR). [1] [2]
