The Podanur-Pollachi Railway was a metre gauge(MG) railway, opened in 1915 linking the towns of Podanur and Pollachi a distance of 25 miles(40km). It was originally financed by the Coimbatore District Board. [1] [2]

The line was subsequently extended to Dindigul in 1928,and its importance increased. When yet another line was laid connecting Palakkad and Pollachi in 1932, the section gained more prominence.
