After the Capture of Kalat Mir Newas Khan was left in command with Lieut Loveday, 37th Bengal Native Infantry, as political agent. Mir Nusseer Khan, son of Mir Mehrab Khan, negotiated a surrender of the town and Lieut Loveday was taken prisoner. He was later murdered by his captors.
