  • 1751 ranked as the 49th Regiment of Foot
  • 1782 became the 49th (the Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot
  • 1816 became the 49th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) (or the Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 united with 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot, to form The Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Berkshire Regiment)
  • 1959 amalgamated into The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment (Berkshire and Wiltshire)
  • 1994 amalgamated with the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, to form the 1st Battalion, The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment.
