Chronology
- 1798 raised as 16th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 16th became 2nd Btn 7th Regt
- 1824 1st Battalion became 32nd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major P Starling
In the Indian Mutiny the regiment did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of its regiments, the 32nd became the third most senior.
- 1861 became 3rd Bengal Native Infantry
