John Fleming & Co

'John Fleming & Co' were a company of Merchants and Agents, which was established by 1884 by John Fleming. Fleming was responsible for the establishment of the 'Bombay Port Trust' and involved in the land reclamatiion projects of the mid 1860's [1]. See page 'Bombay Port Trust' for more information

By the late 1880's the business had evolved into carrying out civil and electrical engineering works. In 1889 the record shows them as 'suppliers of railway plant, rolling stock, and permanent way' and as sole Indian Agents for 'Dick, Kerr & Co'. In 1891 offering for sale 'three miles of portable railway track with all fastenings' etc [1].

In the early 1900's 'John Fleming & Co' were the Agents serving the Bombay Presidency for 'Arthur Koppel & Co' which became 'Orenstein & Koppel' in 1909 [2].
