The Kaunia-Dharlia State Railway was constructed by Eastern Bengal Railway(EBR) as 2ft 6in/762mm narrow gauge(NG) Tram linking Kaunia to the Dharla River [1] [2].
The line interchanged with the metre gauge(MG) ‘Northern Bengal State Railway’ at Kaunia+ and ran eastwards to Teesta+ and then to Kurigram and extended to Jatrapur on the banks of the Dharla River . The NG line first opened in 1882, [3] with an estimated length of length of 32 miles(51km).
