Chronology
In the Indian Mutiny the 21st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry did not rebel and, in the ensuing disbandment of the Bengal Army regiments, it became the most senior.
- 1861 became the 1st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1901 became the 1st Brahman Infantry
- 1903 became the 1st Brahmans
- 1922 united with 62nd Punjabis, 66th Punjabis, 76th Punjabis, 82nd Punjabis, and 84th Punjabis and became 4th/1st Punjab Regiment
- 1931 disbanded
