Chronology

  • 1693 raised as the Earl of Donegal's Regiment of Foot
  • 1698 disbanded
  • 1701 raised again. Also known as the Belfast Regiment
  • 1747 became 35th Regiment of Foot
  • 1751 given the title Prince of Orange's Own Regiment
  • 1782 became the 35th (The Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot
  • 1805 became the 35th (Sussex) Regiment of Foot.
  • 1881 united with the 107th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Light Infantry) to form The Royal Sussex Regiment
  • 1966 was amalgamated with The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment, The Queen's Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment and The Middlesex Regiment and became 3rd Battalion The Queen's Regiment
  • 1992 amalgamated with The Royal Hampshire Regiment to become The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (Queen's and Royal Hampshires)

First World War period, before and after

The 1st Battalion was in India from 1902 until 1919, and appears to have been based at Rawalpindi (1909-1913) and Peshawar (1913-1914) and perhaps other periods. It was at camps at Rustam, Adezai, and Nagoman, while serving on the North West Frontier of India, between August-November 1915. [1]

It took part in the 3rd Afghan War in 1919.
