Southern Railway
On 14 April 1951, Southern Railway became the first zone of Indian Railways (IR), formed from the merger of the Madras and Southern Mahratta, the South Indian and the Mysore State Railways.
In 1966, parts of SR were combined with portions of Central Railway to form the ninth zone of IR, South Central Railway.
