David Ochterlony
Sir David Ochterlony, 1st Baronet GCB (1758-1825) was a British soldier who came to India in 1777 as a cadet. He served in the 2nd Maratha War and commanded one column of the first field force and the whole of the main force in the Gurkha War. He was in command of the Rajputana Column in the Pindari War and became Resident of Rajputana and Delhi. He embraced Mughal culture and was known as Nasir-ud-Daula (Defender of the State).
