1743 raised as Edward Trelawney's Regiment of Foot
1751 ranked as the 49th Regiment of Foot
1782 became the 49th (the Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot
1816 became the 49th (Princess Charlotte of Wales's) (or the Hertfordshire) Regiment of Foot
1881 united with 66th (Berkshire) Regiment of Foot, to form The Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Berkshire Regiment)
1959 amalgamated into The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment (Berkshire and Wiltshire)
1994 amalgamated with the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment, to form the 1st Battalion, The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment.
