Cuddalore and Salem Light Railway
The India Office Records (IOR) records held at the British Library show that a light railway operating on a cart road between Cuddalore and Salem was first suggested in 1854-5. See ‘Records’ below.
No evidence has been found that this project was adopted.
The South Indian Railway(SIR) connection from Cuddalore and Salem via Virudhachalam opened as a metre gauge(MG) line after 1909.
