Netravati Railway Bridge
The Netravati Bridge opened in July 1907
[1] and carried the broad gauge(BG) ‘Madras Railway’ over the Netravati River to Mangalore to complete the ‘Jalarpet-Mangalore Mainline’.
On 1 Jan 1908 this section was transferred to the ‘South Indian Railway’ and became the ‘SIR Boad Gauge Mainline’.
The river is also named the ‘Ullal River’ in some records [2].
The Bridge
The railway crosses the estuary of the river about 2 miles(3.2km) from its mouth, at this point where it is 6200 feet(1.9 km) wide between its banks [3].
The bridge is 0.83km (2762 feet) long [2].
