Banda, around 60 miles south of Cawnpore, was the headquarters of Banda District in the Allahabad Division of United Provinces during the British period. It had a military cantonment.
Treasure captured there during the Indian Mutiny formed part of what became known as the Banda and Kirwee Prize Money.
