Spelling Note

  • ‘Nerbudda’ River’ in the Central Provinces is given in the Imperial Gazetteer [1];
  • ‘Narmada River’ is the alternative name [2].

The majority of references in historical documents use the spelling Nerbudda – this is the form adopted by Fibis.

Nerbudda (Satpura Branch Line) Bridge BNR
The bridge over the Nerbudda River carried the ‘Bengal-Nagpur Railway’ 2ft 6in narrow gaugeSatpura Railway’ from Jubbulpore southward to Nainpur and Gondia, opened in 1904-05 with the completion of the Jubbulpore-Gondia Railway[3].
