Nerbudda River
‘Nerbudda’ River’ in the Central Provinces is given in the Imperial Gazetteer with comment “see Narmada River” [1],
‘Narmada River’ is the alternative name given in the 1908 Imperial Gazetteer [2].which states:-
”The Narbada River is one of the most important rivers of India, which rises on the summit of the plateau of Amarkantak at the north-eastern apex of the Sitpura range in Rewah, Central India. The River enters the sea below Broach in the Bombay Presidency after a total course of 801 miles(1289km)”
The majority of references in historical documents use the spelling Nerbudda – this is the form adopted by Fibis.

The historical records are very confusing and this has made identification difficult.
