Hugh Gough
Field Marshal Sir Hugh Gough, 1st Viscount Gough, KP, GCSI, KCB, PC (1779-1869) was a British soldier who came to India in 1837 to command the Mysore Division of the Madras Army. He was commander-in-chief of the British forces in the 1st China War after which he became Commander-in-Chief in India. He commanded the Gwalior Campaign and won costly victories in the 1st Sikh War and the 2nd Sikh War.
