Summary
This postcard was sent by John Flatman who subsequently died in 1918 and is buried in the Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery.
His details from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website are:
- Rank: Guard
- Service No: 15427
- Regiment/Service: Indian Railway Department
- Iraq Railways (or Mesopotamian Railways), a unit in the Indian Army.
It is suspected that John Flatman was in East Africa as part of Indian Army campaign there, in some railway related capacity, possibly as part of the North-Western Railway Volunteers. However, no records have been located which would confirm or deny this. He had a family connection to the North Western Railway and it is very possible he worked there prior to working on trains for the Army, but again no records are available to confirm or deny this.
