Podanur-Pollachi Railway
The Podanur-Pollachi Railway was a metre gauge(MG) railway, opened in 1915 linking the towns of Podanur and Pollachi a distance of 25 miles(40km). It was originally financed by the Coimbatore District Board. [1][2]
The line was subsequently extended to Dindigul in 1928,and its importance increased. When yet another line was laid connecting Palakkad and Pollachi in 1932, the section gained more prominence. From the date of its commissioning on April 1, 1932 to its closure on December 10, 2008, the line served travel, trade and pilgrimage needs of the people extensively. [3]
The line was worked by South Indian Railway(SIR)
