Ranjewan Colliery Tramway

The 'Ranjewan Colliery' was near Sitarampur, 6km north-west of Asansol, being the western part of the Raniganj Coalfield. The exact location of the Colliery has not been identified. The Colliery was owned by Seth Apcar [1] of ‘Apcar & Co’.

A line ran from the Colliery to the East Indian Railway(EIR) at Sitarampur Station, distance unknown. The 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) line was first opened in 1873 and was animal worked. By 1875 it was decided that the amount of traffic merited the use of a locomotive and the line was upgraded and included two bridges and two culverts [1].
