The Sabarmati Thermal Power Station Railway was owned by the ‘Ahmedabad Electricity Supply Company’, The company was incorporated in 1913 for which Killick, Nixon & Company was the Managing Agent . The first electricity was supplied in 1915 [1].

The power station (now named Torrent Power) is served by a short branch line eastward of Sabarmati Junction to carry the coal. Sabarmati is named after the river and about 4 miles(6km) north of Ahmedabad.
