This event is part of the First World War

Synopsis

In October 1914 British Indian forces under Maj-Gen Sir George Younghusband, Maj-Gen Herbert Cox and Maj-Gen Sir Charles Mills were posted to Egypt to secure the Suez Canal. In February 1915 the Turks were beaten back at Serapeum. In November 1915 a campaign was fought against the Senussi in Western Egypt.
