Japla Cement Works Tramway and Ropeway

The 'Sone Valley Portland Cement Co Ltd' established the Japla Cement Works in 1922. The company was owned by the 'Associated Portland Cement Manufactures Company' UK for which Martin & Company was Managing Agent [1].

Limestone was quarried from the lower slopes of the Kymore Hills at Rohtas (on the other side of Sone River) and conveyed by a 5 mile(8km) ropeway to the works, and shale was excavated within a few miles of the works and carried there by Tramway. An East Indian Railway(EIR) siding ran into the despatching shed [1]
