Vellore is between Madras and Bangalore. It was formally a garrison town for the British Army. Vellore was the scene of the first mutiny in India, in 1806, when sepoys massacred members of H.M. 69th Regiment of Foot who were sick in hospital. There is a well-preserved cemetery in Vellore, and monuments to the British slain.

Churches

  • St John's velloretour.blogspot.co.uk. Built in 1846, the church is located within the Vellore Fort.
  • Assumption R C Cathedral. Original church built 1854. Subsequently demolished and new church consecrated 1999.
