Chronology
- 1766 raised as the 24th Battalion at Bankypore under Sir Robert Barker as a Purgunnah Battalion (provincial revenue collecting duty)
- 1775 became the 14th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1781 became the 8th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1784 became the 15th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1786 became the 15th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1795 mutinied against overseas service and was disbanded
In 1861, after the mutiny, the title was given to the 16th Regiment of Punjab Infantry which later became the 24th Regiment of Punjab Infantry.
