- 1814 raised by James Skinner as 2nd Regiment of Skinner's Horse
- 1821 became Baddeley’s Frontier Horse
- 1823 became 4th (Baddeley’s) Local Horse
- 1840 became 4th Irregular Cavalry
- 1861 became 3rd Regiment of Bengal Cavalry
- 1901 became 3rd Bengal Cavalry (Skinner’s Horse)
- 1903 became 3rd Skinner’s Horse
- 1921 became 1st/3rd Horse by amalgamating with 1st (The Duke of York's Own) Regiment of Bengal Lancers (Skinner's Horse)
- 1947 allocated to India on Partition
