- The initial letters, from March 1913 were written when Thomas Gilbert was working for the Bombay Department of Agriculture. In June 1916 he was accepted to serve in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers, when he appears to have had the title Deputy Director of Agriculture, Southern Division – Bombay Dharwar (page 29).
