Nellikuppam Sugar Factory Railway

The Sugar Factory at Nellikuppam was established by 'Parry & Company' in 1845 with a distillery added in 1848, which makes it India's oldest sugar factory [1].

Nellikuppam is 5km west of Cuddalore in the South Arcot District, Madras and is on the South Indian Railway(SIR) [2].

This section of the metre gauge(MG) SIR mainline opened in 1877 and the Sugar Factory was most certainly connected to the railway, probably from this date. The length of the line into works has not been determined.

No further information has been found.
