Raniganj Pottery Works Railway
The Pottery Works at Raniganj (with alternative spellings Raneegunge and Raneegungee) was established in 1868, it manufactured various pottery wares and ceramic insulators as a minor product[1].
The Managing Agent was Burn & Co Ltd. The clay was a white silicious and found in proximity of the coal measures in the Raniganj region. The clay was suitable for the manufacture of many articles of hard pottery and after suitable treatment, for fire-bricks [2].
There was a hand-worked internal railway system used for the transport of clay pipes around the factory and stockyards. Photographs of the system were published in the Aug 1898 edition of ‘Indian & Eastern Engineer’ [3].
The date of construction, gauge and extent of the railway is unknown.
