Sarda Canal Construction Railway
The Sarda Canal was constructed by the United Provinces Irrigation Department in the Champawat District. The comprehensive irrigation scheme that irrigated the whole of north-west Oudh replaced a number of smaller irrigation canals. Headworks were built across the Sarda River at Banbassa and a number of secondary canals were built from the main canal [1].
Construction started in 1920-21 when the records show the first railway equipment, wagons and locomotives were obtained. A workshop and central store was established at Bareilly and fully operational by 1924-24.The records indicate that the system was a 2ft/610mm narrow gauge(NG) railway. The wholme project was completed in 1928 [1].
