Shiroli-Haliyal, Kanara District, Tramway Proposal
An 1891 survey was carried out by the Bombay Presidency Forest Department for a tramway of unknown gauge in the Kanara Distict. It was to run from Shiroli (now in Belagum District) to Haliyal (now in Uttara Kannada District), and then to a junction with the Southern Mahratta Railway(SMR). The proposal was reported in 'Indian Engineering' 4 Jul 1891 edition, and the intention was to operate the tramway with bullocks. [1].
There is no evidence that this tramway was constructed and no mention in the annual reports [1]
