The [[Lakhimpur Volunteer Rifle Corps]] were raised on 3rd November 1882 and later became the [[Lakhimpur Mounted Rifles]] on 27th July 1888. On the 29th February the [[Sibsagar Mounted Rifles]] were formed and later became the [[Sibsagar Mounted Infantry]] on 30th April 1886 before resuming their original designation on 15th February 1889. The [[Darrang Mounted Infantry]] formed on the 3rd June 1887 and later became the [[Darrang Mounted Rifles]] on 15th February 1889. On 6th November 1891 these units amalgamated with the [[Nowgong Mounted Rifles]], which were raised on the 27th July 1888 and the [[Gauhati Rifles]], which were formed 13th November 1885, to become the [[Assam Valley Mounted Rifles]]. Designated Assam Valley Light Horse on 25th September 1896. On 1st May 1906 the unit absorbed the [[Shillong Volunteer Rifles]] which was formed on 11th August 1882.
