The '''Tinnevelly-Tiruchendur Railway''' was first proposed in 1908 , to be a metre gauge([[Rail_gauge_#Metre_Gauge|MG]]) line from [[Tinnevelly]] to the pilgrimage site at [[Tiruchendur]] and to be constructed by the District Board.

The line was sanctioned for construction in July 1915 to run from [[Tinnevelly]] to [[Tiruchendur]], a length of 38 miles (60km); the work that was in progress was "stopped owing to the abnormal conditions on account of the war."

There is no evidence that this MG line was constructed.
In 1926 the following is recorded ‘Messers"Messers. Parry and Company’s light Railway runs from [[Tiruchendur ]] to [[Tissianvilai ]] touching the port of [[Kulasekarapatnam]], which has shipping connection with Colombo and Tuticorin."
