Summary

Comte de Lally, with all the forces he could muster, encamped before Fort St George and began constructing siege batteries. Over two months there were numerous engagements. John Caillaud brought reinforcements from Tanjore and assumed command of the garrison. French supplies became short. A British fleet arrived on 15 February and de Lally was obliged to raise the siege.
