One of the Engineers on the project in 1884 was [[Hugh Lewin Monk]] from the [[Public Works Department]](PWD) Railway Branch of PWD.  
The opening of the bridge completed the [[Cawnpore-Kalpi-Jhansi Railway]] which had opened in 1886 by [[Indian Midland Railway]](IMR) and enabled a direct link to [[Bombay]]

The Kalpi Bridge was completed in 1888 crossing the River Yamuna at Kalpi. Also referred to the Yamuna Bridge in some records.
