Chronology

  • 1766 raised as the 3rd Madras European Regiment
  • 1774 absorbed into 1st and 2nd Madras European Regiments
  • 1777 reformed as the 3rd Madras European Regiment
  • 1796 disbanded
  • 1854 raised as the 3rd Madras (European) Infantry
  • 1858 taken into the British Army
  • 1859 became the 3rd Madras Infantry
  • 1862 renamed 108th Regiment of Foot
  • 1881 amalgamated with the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot to form The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers
  • 1968 merged with the Royal Ulster Rifles and the Royal Irish Fusiliers and became the Royal Irish Rangers
