General Sir Charles John Stanley Gough VC, GCB (1832–1912) was the grandson of Viscount Gough and brother of Hugh Gough. He was born in Chittagong and entered the army in 1848. He served in 8th Bengal Light Cavalry during the 2nd Sikh War and became a major in the 5th Bengal European Light Cavalry. He won a VC for gallantry on four separate occasion during the Indian Mutiny. He also took part in the Duar War and the 2nd Afghan War. He commanded the Hyderabad Contingent.
