The Umaria Coalfield Railwayopened in 1886-87 in order to connect Umaria Coalfield to the railway system.
The line was part of Katni-Umaria Provincial State Railway which was a section of the Bilaspur-Etawa Provincial State Railway.
The Bilaspur-Etawa Provincial State Railway was absorbed by the Bengal Nagpur Railway(BNR) on 1st January 1888
