The Godhra-Ratlam-Nagda Railway was a broad gauge(BG) line first opened in 1893 with the section from Godhra to Ratlam 1894 and reaching Nagda 1895 [1] [2].

The record L/F/8/13/984 at the British Library indicates that the railway was first named the Godhra-Rutlam Railway and that BB&CIR entered into a 'Contract for the taking over and working'. Note spelling of Rutlam which appears in some other documents

The railway operated as 'Branch Section' of the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway BG network and was 141 miles(226km) in length[3]

Records

Refer to FIBIS Fact File #4: “Research sources for Indian Railways, 1845-1947” - available from the Fibis shop. This Fact File contains invaluable advice on 'Researching ancestors in the UK records of Indian Railways' with particular reference to the India Office Records (IOR) held at the British Library

An on-line search of the IOR records relating to this railway [4] gives the following: -

  • L/F/8/13/984 “Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Coy Contract as to taking over and working the Godhra-Rutlam Railway. Supplemental to the contract dated 24th September 1884; 1893”
